About me

Hello!
I am a secondary Family and Consumer Science teacher. I have been teaching for 4 years (just got tenure...yippee!) I teach a Foods & Nutrition course as well as a Independent Living. I also coach volleyball and love it! I just got the varsity coaching position, so I have a lot of new things to learn/do over the summer to prepare for the fall. In my spare time (outside of 2 grad school classes and volleyball camps/leagues, etc.), I am raising a new yellow lab puppy...he keeps me busy non-stop.
I'm looking foward to this class as well as getting to know all of you.

  1. Hey Kellie,
How are things going with the puppy. My husband and I want a yellow lab so bad but we have been gone almost every weekend so we are waiting until things slow down a little. What is his name?

  2. Hi Kellie!

I'm curious. What is Independent Living? Is it a general education course? Balancing check-books and such? If so, thank you so much for teaching it! I cover some of these things with my high school students--it isn't always intuitive!

  3. hi Kellie! you should post a picture of your lab puppies - they're my favorite =). I think that's super cool that you teach a foods and nutrition class! sounds interesting. where do you coach volleyball?

  4. Melanie & Emily...
Things are going pretty well with my puppy, his name is Cody. He's 13 weeks old now, and loves to put everything in his mouth (just like a child...except he damages more things with his sharp teeth). He's actually done really well. He was potty trained within the first week of bringing him home at 8 weeks! (I got lucky there!) He's just SO needy, and it's hard for me to get anything done when he's awake, because he just wants to play non-stop. But he's definitely worth it all!! I'll try to post a picture of him...thanks for the idea, Emily.

    Elizabeth...
Independent Living is exactly how you described it. It's an elective, one trimester course. I get a large number of special education students in my course, so I'm hoping this class might give me ideas to help them. We cover banking (checkbooks, budget, savings, investing); job preparation; insurance; housing/renting; transportation; and laundry. All the basics to help them live on their own.

    Thanks for your posts!!!
